We are proud to announce CT Hackerspace has reached their goal of $500 to purchase a newer Bridgeport head to replace our existing one.  This new head would help our machine to be fully operational with more turning speeds, and run on better bearings.  Helped by “Team Wade and Matt”, who sponsored the 1 to 1 matching program to make  donation dollars work twice as hard.

The CT Hackerspace Tool Upgrades Continues!

Thanks to Jason Wells and Matthew Hubbard for volunteering their time and skills to spruce up our 4′ x 8′ CNC Machine. We now have a new tabletop installed and the Linux CNC Boxes will be upgraded soon.

 After recently adding another 3D Printer to the CT Hackerspace’s 3D Printer Station, we decided that a further upgrade of the Printer Area could be a nice complement. Our new, cleaner, less cluttered area is ready for use by members and public alike. Equipment is available free of charge; Just cover materials cost. Join in to help us continue the planned refurbishment of the entire area. This includes a rebuild of our 360 Scanner, finishing upgrades to our hand built Deltabot, along with some new TLC for our original printer built in 2010.

Save the date to attend CT Hackerspace’s General Member Meeting on Saturday May 12th at 1pm.

At the General Meeting we will include some food and beverages for a meet and greet.Following the get together, we will have we will have member voting for Hackerspace positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Afterwards we will have the “State of the Space” Address, ending with General Member Feedback.

The “State of the Spate” Address is an occasional message presented by the President CT Hackerspace at a general annual meeting to the members of the space. The event includes a budget message, and an economic report of the space, and also allows the President to outline the hackerspace board agenda moving forward. It is an opportunity to get more involved in the space and meet members you may not normally have an opportunity to collaborate with others involved.

Let’s do something interesting with our Arduinos! We have learned about inputs and outputs for the Arduino and also how to use sensors. So now let’s put all of these together and make a project that will collect and save this data. In this session, we will use a shield and a library to get our Arduinos to connect to the Internet, attach and program sensors to collect data, then send this data to the cloud! We will use a data collection service to help build a dashboard to display our findings.

An Arduino shield will be provided.

Many DIY projects require welding. This can be a show stopper for many hobbyists. Do you dream of building a roll cage, bicycle, tools or furniture?

In this two day introductory workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of welding.

We will start with a bit of basic theory and safety. It can be intimidating to get started welding because of the potential dangers involved and the complexity of the equipment.

Starting with torch welding has a lot of advantages, what you learn by torch welding is applicable to all other forms of welding.

We will also talk about welding on a budget, and what types of welding are best for you.

This two day class will cover:

• Safety

• Oxyfuel welding

• Oxyfuel cutting

• Brazing

Additional classes will build upon what you have learned and will include;

• MIG welding (GMAW)

• TIG welding (GTAW)

• Plasma Cutting

The introductory workshop will be required for future workshops, as the information builds upon past classes.

Taught by Wade Barocsi an automotive welding and metallurgy instructor at NVCC.

Thursday April 19th 6:30-8:30pm and Sunday April 22 11:00-1:30

CTH Member Cost $59 + $20 materials fee.

Non-Member Cost $89 + $20 materials fee.
